Compatibility

Post by 1969ratfink »

Can anyone tell me if the compatibility of the following part for my Hodaka? I own a 1971 Hodaka Ace 100B. The part number for the "fuel tank" is 909000 I would like to know if the fuel tank with the part number of 999000 will properly fit my bike, without modification. (I believe the 999000 off of a Road Toad is the same tank...but is painted green.) Can anyone give me some information? thanks 1969ratfink

Nope, that isn't a "bolt on" compatible switch.

ANY of the "pillow" shape "toaster tanks" would interchange directly. NONE of the "coffin" painted tanks will interchange directly.

The tank I am looking at is the "pillow shaped" (not the toaster tank). It looks identical to the "original silver tank", but is painted green. So you think it would match-up and fit without any modifications? thanks 1969ratfink

DOH! What was I thinking? Yes, the 99 Road Toad tank IS one of the "pillow" shaped tanks and will bolt on straight-away.

PS: Sorry for the mis-statement in the earlier response.

Interestingly, the model 99 Toad tank will not fit an Ace 100. I just tried it, and the tunnel at the rear of the tank is too shallow. The Toad tank will fit a model 94 Wombat, but not the Ace (or model 93).

Brian:

That's news to me -- but it is hard to discount an " I went to the garage and tried it" test. So I guess we have to go with the test information.

Are you sure that neither the tank nor the frame you tried it on have been modified?

Ed;

Like you, I'm a little hesitant to accept something I'm told when it is contrary to what I already believe. I suppose we all are, and that's a "good thing", especially with the amount of misinformation easily available over the internet. I'll offer up some evidence in the form of some pictures:

I discovered this a couple of years back when I tried to fit a Toad tank to a 93 Rat frame.

Thank you Brian I like Ed did not know this. I had thought a Toad tank would have fit the Ace frames.
Parts are on the way also!!
Thank you

I discoverd that also about 5 years ago when building my niclkel platet 1970 Rat and was installing my freshly powder coated 98 tank , so I lopped off the mounting tabs and re welded them to the correct position , pretty easy job to do if all you have to use is a later tank ,

That is a nice looking bike. Is that a Swenco front end and swing arm? Is it a 100cc?
