Petcock sealant

What is a good sealant to cure leaky petcocks?

I use grinding compound. It sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't. It is worth a try.

Which petcocks ?? Brass or potmetal? Richard is correct that grinding compound will sometime help the brass petcocks to seat. But this will not work with the potmetal petcocks.
