Ace 100 shift cover

Can anyone tell me where to install the thrust washer on the shift shaft? I can't tell from the parts diagram and I have seen them on the outside under the snap ring and in side on either side of the ratchet. Does it matter where it goes ?

To my knowledge the thrust washer goes under the snap ring on the outside of the case.

Brian is right. If the washer was not under the snap ring it would eat into the aluminum of the case as it moved back and forth.

I would also put a washer on the inside where the detent ratchet contacts the the cover .
