Need info on the 175/250 clutches. The primary gear is rivited onto the cage. Is this a direct attachment, or is there a shock absorbing system involved in the assembly? My assembly has a small amount of play in the unit.

I have a clutch for a 250 SL, and it has a small amount of play as well. About 1/32".
It feels like there are rubber dampers inside with no metal to metal contact.
The parts list does not show this part disassembled, so I'm assuming it is a cush drive.

Thanks for checking that. I have an extra 175 clutch I checked. It has alot more play than what I am working with. Don't know the history of the loose one. The one I am working with has about the same amount of play as yours.
