Looking for tire recommendations for newly acquired CW

Very recently acquired my dad's CW (1st Gen) that he bought new in 73. I rode this as a kid but it has been in storage now for 35-40 years. It is very clean and complete, just looking to make it trail worthy so figure new tubes and tires would be a good thing to do since it still has the original Nittos from 1973 mounted. I obviously know the stock size and presume the Nittos are no longer being made (couldn't find anything in a quick google search). What recommendations do you of great Hodaka knowledge have for replacement tires? I do have the tubes ordered from Hodaka Parts Inc. Thanks for any suggestions!

I like the Kendas also! I usually get the Kenda Classic or Trakmaster, 80/100-18.

Just a suggestion, but the engine seals are now over 50 years old. You should do a leak down test on the engine and think about replacing the seals.

Thanks, that is the plan. Got it running today for first time. Now that I know she will run the plan is to do a thorough tear down and rebuild.

Victor...you have been a huge help here and on FB, thanks. I can't seem to find a source for a 80/100-18 rear. I tried buying a 100/100-18 and it is too wide for the CW. Any suggestions on where to find a rear that will fit since stock was pretty narrow by todays standards apparently.

The Dunlop K990 tires are specifically designed for small bore vintage bikes. They make a 70/100-21 and a 90/100-18 that have the look and feel of vintage tires, but manufactured with modern compounds.

Thanks for the info...seems everyone is "Out of Stock" on the 18!

I'm running the Cheng Shin 4.10-18 on my CW. It says 4.10 but it's really a 3.50. No clearance problems.

I agree with Larry. I have gone around the pits at vintage races with my digital calipers measuring rear tires. The Cheng Shin 4.10-18 is the narrowest that I have measured outside knob to outside knob.

All of my racers have the 4.10 Cheng Shin on the rear.

I just checked my sources and indeed have found that the Dunlop K990 90/100-18 has been discontinued and is out of stock. The Cheng Shin 755 4.10-18 is still available , and is still much more affordable than the Dunlop ever was. It performs very well on the Hodakas.

I’ve been on the road! Glad you found a supplier!
Since Covid, tires have seemed to be on back order, a LOT!
A lot of folks here helped me in the past. So, I believe in paying it forward!
