Hopefully others will respond, but from I have heard it is getting very hard to find a good source for getting things chromed. Also, the prices are going sky high (lowest I have heard was around $500 to $600; but also heard others getting quotes of $800+).
If you are on Facebook, check out the Hodaka groups there are look for the the discussions on chroming. There are some sources listed there and some ideas on prices.

I have used Advanced Plating and they do an excellent job. Show chrome and expensive.

Its been a while since I did any fuel tanks. Usually I would clean the tank interior to make sure no leaks or pin holes. Pulled any dents and shipped to Advanced ready for their plating process. Once tank is returned interior of tank has modest rust from the plating process that must be carefully removed...with out damaging new chrome.

They are able to repair dents but adds to cost.

I’m not sure where you live. I use a chromer in El Paso, Tx. They did a tank for me for $345 even with a couple of small dents which he removed. You must ask for street chrome to get this price. Street Chrome, at this shop is just copper followed by chrome, like Hodaka used to do. Custom chrome is $600 but has nickel between the copper & the chrome, making it more time consuming and expensive.

If you want the information, you can let me know. The guy stays really busy! It’s about a 10-12 week turn around time.

Seems more & more chrome platers are being put out of business because it’s a very costic process. Here’s a photo of the tank he did for me! :ugeek: Victor
