so im putting together my combat shifter case and had to look at one of my other bikes shifter to see how it looks, you know having a moment , so what do i find there different on one the shifter guide is on the right on the other one the shifter guide is on the left . that seems like a pretty big adjustment in the making of the side case . is there a explanation for this ...albert

Yes, there is indeed an explanation for what you found.

Take a peek at the outside of each of the shifter cases. You will find that one of them has "HODAKA" molded into the outer surface, while the other one will have "ACE 100" or "ACE 90" molded into the outer surface.

ALL "ACE" shifter covers have the old style "up for first" shift pattern.
ALL "HODAKA" shifter covers have the more "modern" (and standardized) "down for first" shift pattern.

The changing of the innards made it possible to retain "bolt on" interchangeablility of the complete shifter cases.
