1968 Model 92 Ace 100 Wiring / Lighting Help

Hi, I've been putting together the wiring for a 1968 Ace 100 and so far I've put it together according to the wiring diagram from am ace 90 as it's the closest to the original wiring. And for whatever reason I can't get any of the lights to work. Is there a ground I'm missing somewhere? Something simple? Otherwise everything else works just fine. Thanks for all the help.

I could be wrong with the engine running the yellow wire to the light switch should be hot. The red wire off of the battery should be hot. Some times with too much voltage you can burn out your bulbs, before you get started, check them. You need the correct lighting coil?? ----------- Clarence

Cool, I'll look into it. I have new taillight bulbs and speedo and high beam indicator bulbs, and found a replacement headlight. I'll check out the wires out of the motor and battery as well. Thanks

I’ve attached an Ace 100 wiring diagram for you. Hope it helps.

When I wire an Ace, I start at the top of the chart and connect each item, moving clockwise around the diagram. Keeps things simpler that way because you’re only connecting a few wires at a time.

If you have questions, let me know. I just about can wire most any Hodaka now without referring to a wiring diagram!

I also remove the old fuse holder and wire in a mini blade fuse holder to replace it. They tend to fry up and crumble away. :ugeek: Victor

Victor I think your wiring diagram is for a 100B (92A, 92B or the 92B+) I think he is working on a ace 100 model 92. I do not think the ace 100 model 92 had a emergency light switch??>> In the day, I had a print shop enlarge the wiring diagram two feet by three feet and hung them on the wall, so I did not have to keep referring to the small print in the manual. I think the BU wire which I think means blue is the ground wire. ----------- Clarence

Nope! Better check yourself here Victor. If there are any Model 92's with an emergency switch, I would like to see it.

OK. Well this is what’s posted on Terry’s website as a Model 92 wiring diagram. Wouldn’t be the first time I was mis-informed by a web posting. I stand corrected. :ugeek: Victor

Dagnabit! The white haired old dude who hangs around here a lot apparently put my copy of the Official Hodaka Workshop Manual in a safe place - safe because it could not be found! I've been searching for a week . . . and I gave the search one more try just a few minutes ago. Eureka! I found it!

Ennnnnneywayeeee, see below for the wiring diagram which was printed as a supplement to the ACE 90 manual to provide updated information on the ACE 100.

Is this the case of a confusion factor? Who's on first, a possible error in labeling the wiring diagrams?. -------- Clarence

Just to be sure, it was me (Ed) using exclamation marks to indicate frustration with the old coot who "squirreled away" my Workshop Manuals. 😉

Update: I got all the lights to work taillight/stop light headlight, High beam indicator and speedometer Light. The only problem I'm facing now is that the fuses keep breaking as if it there's too much power through them. I'm not sure what's causing it, I have a proper battery so the only thing I can assume is the stator or something with charging. If anyone knows that would be great thanks you for all the good info it was very helpful.

Test your Selenium Rectifier - you'll need the Workshop Manual for that. Also, (and this MAY be all you need to do) - make sure the Selenium Rectifier is mounted "square" - not twisted. The corners of the plate must NOT touch anything.

I like to slip in a late model voltage regulator from a Road Toad on my Ace or Wombat restorations. The charging systems seem to get more aggressive as they get older. Especially now that original headlights are getting scarce and pricey.

Yes and so many different lighting coils to choose from, I have considered the voltage regulator myself. Clarence

I used a Toad voltage regulator on my last Wombat build. It gives a more consistent light for the headlight and no surges to burn the lamp prematurely. :ugeek: Victor
