Hodaka owners handbooks

Trivia asks a question so in this I will just share the answer. The ace 90 made three different 90's but only the last two had owners handbooks. The first group I call prototype changed at frame number A0233 no handbook for these. The next group, batch were called the MK II and there was a handbook with part number 909510 other parts that changed, like the handle bar holder # became 908727A. The A at the end was the new number for the MKII. The last group of 90"s built beyond frame number A6533 the owners handbook became part number 909510C. Enough for now open to questions, corrections or suggestions. ---------- Clarence

I have seen the owners manual with MK II on the cover. I think in the Hodaka book as well. Pretty cool, but I know nothing about the story behind it.
I have a running Ace90 motor with a weird setup that I had not encountered before. It is a fairly early build stamped P2026.
Question 1: Clarence where does this place this for a build date?
Question 2: There is a split in the magneto cavity with a hard rubber insert and a ground wire running under it. Is this common for this era of Ace90 motor?

Dale the engine was built about march of 1965. the split in the case on the mag side of this engine as well as the rubber inserts on the engine for the mounting bolts, is common to this era. this was also a carry over from the yamaguchi engine. ------------ Clarence

Thanks Clarence. Good to know. Now I have to go double check the engine mounts.... This motor is installed on the Ace 90 that the girls rode at Hodaka Days. That was fun!

So Clarence, the model 90 that you restored, frame number A 5987, engine number P5980, is a MkII? How do we figure out what year and month it was manufactured? Thanks for your wisdom. James

The part number for the owners handbook ace 100 model 92 was 929510, the owners parts book was 929550. The owners handbook for the ace100B model 92A, was 929510A and the owners parts list was 929550A. -------- Clarence

Memory doesn't make me right. After hodaka produced the ace 100 model 92 they produced the super rat model 93, it started with frame number B37211. Then according to my memory they produced more ace 100 model92. and then produced the ace 100B model 92A. My Hap Jones blue books lists all three being made in 1970. There were flyers showing now there are three hodakas. The ace 100B model 92A owners manual 929510A owners parts list 929550A and WRC- 02 was the 92A- warranty card. The MX 100 we called them super rats their owners manual were part number 939510 and the owners parts list was number 939550. open to corrections Clarence

The ace 90 workshop manual is 162 pages and the ace 100 manual supplement is 64 page. The 100B model 92B manual supplement is about 80 pages. the reason for that is the Ace 90 manual went in depth, on every point. so the ace 90 manual is like a master workshop manual. so if you really want to master a ace 100, Model 92A or 92B you need to digest a ace 90 manual also. For example the ace 90 manual covers the carburetor in 6 pages the ace 100 and 92B supplement covers the carburetor in 3 pages, they go hand and hand. The ace 90 workshop manual was printed in 1967, the ace 100 manual was printed in 1972, and the 100B model 92B was printed in 1972. the owners hand books are not shop manuals. ------ Clarence

I picked up a Model 92 yesterday. It has the incorrect pipe but an extra rear wheel and a set of plastic fenders, 2 rear stainless fenders and a complete 92 front fender. It has the chrome rear rack, a newer style headlight and a few other parts, all in a box as well. But I bought it from the original owner who got it as a kid. Paid $250 plus a 2.5 hour drive 1 way to pick it up!

Clarence: I have no idea as to the answer to your question about the last date the workshop manual was supplemented. I would like to find a supplement that covered the model 96 (AKA model 92C). Does such a thing exist? The Dirt Squirt wants to know. Regards, James

Dirt Squirt Owner's Handbooks came with the bike - but there is no supplement to the Official Hodaka Workshop Manual for the Dirt Squirt.

James your closest information on the 92C dirt squirt would be your owners manual and parts list. The closest workshop manual supplement that I know of, would be the one with the label 100B, it is for the 92B, I could be wrong Clarence

James,
As already noted, there is no manual specifically for the model 96 Dirt Squirt. But, all the information you need would be contained in the manual covering the Ace 90, with supplements covering the Ace 100, Ace 100B and Super Rat. The manual covering the Wombat and Combat Wombat would also be handy as the frame, and suspension is basically the same.

Clarence,
AS far as I know, the last official supplement's would have been the one for for Ace 100 B and the Super Rat (model 93), which both had their third printing in July 1972 (copyright dates of 1971). I believe the part #'s for the supplements were WM 103 for the Ace 100 B and WM 104 for the Super Rat.
