Would you rebuild?

Alan received an Ace 90 motor with an Ace 100 cylinder & head on it. The owner wants a bottom end rebuild. Sent him a level 4 rebuild kit only with no bearings or other bottom end parts. Told Alan use the existing bearings if they are still good….

Then Alan sends me this picture, a few actually, but I chose this one to post. And he seems to be asking whether or not he should put new bearings in this right case. Pay careful attention to the crank bearing boss in the upper case. The lower case is another Alan has on hand from another 90 motor he was going to rebuild to sell.

I suggested he ask Bruce for cost & shipping on another set of 90 cases, and said add that to the cost of the rebuild. He can use the ones on hand and the replacements can go to building another motor.

Would any of you rebuild this motor with the boss busted out? I know I wouldn’t. :ugeek: Victor

If he’s never gonna run it then you could rebuild the old case, but why not do it right? And why not put in new bearings and the kicker upgrade? You’re already in it….

I never change bearings that are as good as new. Clarence

Guys. The question is not whether to put new parts in it. The question is would you rebuild a motor with a broken crank bearing boss! Especially using this broken case? I thought the question was pretty simple, especially if you can’t repair the bearing boss?

Most anything can be repaired BUT is it cheaper to repair or replace. That`s my opinion. Joe

Victor your 150 word Question --- "and he seems to be asking weather or not he should put new bearings in the right case" --- Victor you used 10 times that many words taking me down different paths, if you want a simple answer, ask the simple question. ---------------- Clarence
