Good Evening

Bought this motor was listed as a Super Rat however by reading the number it’s just a 92 Ace 100

Will this motor work in a 1972 Wombat ?

Also noticed after it arrived the case has a piece missing first picture

Yes it will bolt right into a Wombat frame. You would need to swap to an Ace exhaust and probably an Ace throttle cable. Wombat cable may be too long. The damaged area is cosmetic and very common. You can put a piece of tape behind it as a backer and just fill the missing area with black silicone. If you plan on a rebuild you can send the case out and have it fixed Lot of guys out there can do this repair. Chase those side cover screw holes with a 6mm thread chaser, they may have dirt packed in them.

Case can be repaired, it will fit in a wombat frame. May have to do some minor adjustments to exhaust and intake to get it to work correctly.

I have the Hodaka Ace Workshop Manual in .pdf format.

This will give you a boat load of Ace 100 engine repair info.

It's free for the asking. I'm willing to email it to you.

P motor definitely makes it an Ace. Does it have the second lighting coil on the stator? How many fin rows on the head? 13 or 15? Could be they had a Super Rat motor and damaged the cases & put it back together with Ace cases? You never know until you check. If you pull the clutch cover, check the big primary gear to see if the teeth are straight cut or helical cut.

A good alumawelder can fix the case. Should be able to find someone locally who does it. Not a hard job.

If you put this motor in a Wombat frame, you might consider finding a Model 96 Dirt Squirt exhaust for it. The Dirt Squirts were Ace motors in a Wombat frame. The Squirt uses the same exhaust flange as a Super Rat. A Wombat pipe won’t fit it. An Ace pipe might but it might be too tight for the wider Wombat frame. If you don’t find a DS pipe, let me know. I have one hanging in my garage. :ugeek: Victor

Regarding the color of the stator wires, there is a blue wire shown, which connects your points to your missing condenser. There should also be a blue wire which terminates at your ignition coil, along with a black wire.

There should be black & blue wires which connect at the back of the stator and run up to the ignition coil. It appears the ignition primary (exciter) coil has been removed. Also, it appears only the lighting coil remains and the 4 wire plug to the ignition switch has been removed. But, I would guess the DPO tried to use the lighting coil as the exciter coil, which would possibly explain the yellow wire.

It also has a broken exciter coil screw in the mount hole, as well as a broken screw in the condenser mount hole. And it looks like your bottom stator screw is missing. You may need to drill it out and retap the threads in order to mount both the exciter coil and a condenser.

I would find a different stator which is complete. Your flywheel will be better balanced having both coils in place, even if you remove or don’t have the ignition switch, if it’s decided you don’t need it. But you will need it if you decide to add lights and/or an ignition switch. :ugeek: Victor

It’ll need to be bored. Better stator assembly would be good, check all screw holes and repair as necessary.

The head looks questionable as well. You can buy a hood used head from Terry Larson at www.Hodaka-Parts.com. He tells me he has plenty of heads for $25 each!

That one looks like they drilled it for a second spark plug or a compression release and put some kind of plug in it. I’d replace it. :ugeek: Bictor

I live in the land of gentle warmth, Montana. I will donate a P engine. I can check and make sure the components are good and ship it to you. It would be without shifter case but good engine cases no cylinder it will include a clutch, head and flywheel. But of course you might receive a east coast offer? It would be the least I could do for a former dealer your Gramps. ------------ Clarence
