Won’t start!!!!

Posted: Mon Feb 22, 2021 2:01 pm
Hey there. I can’t figure out what to try. I have a 125 Wombat with no lights I could use some help. I have good spark I re-gapped the points compression is at 51psi I drop a bit of gas in the cylinder and not a sputter. I tried push starting it down a hill but not even a sputter. It was running nice and just quit like you turned off the switch. It should at least backfire any help would be appreciated

i hope the 51 psi of compression is a typo, This is way to low for an engine to run.

I too hope that is a typo on the compression. 151psi would be fine, 51psi not so much.

Re-gapped the points. OK. What gap are they at now? (NOTE: I'm not asking what gap you set them at. I'm asking what gap they measure out at NOW.) What you "set" and what you "got" could be wildly different things.

PS: I always check the firing point with a cheap timing light,, so I KNOW what the actual ignition timing is. (things can move as you tighten the points setting screw . . . and that movement may not be noticed)

Another possibility is that since it died while running it seized and you were able to kick and push it once it cooled down. A quick seize will smear enough piston to stick the rings in the grooves and kill compression. Did it shut down at idle or while riding?

olddogs' comment would pair up REAL well with 51 psi compression.
