Resonator; how many would like to see a Hodaka eng., or restorer of the month award given

How many of Hodaka Club members would like to see an award, given out lets say three times a year, to Best Hodaka Eng shop, and Best Restorers. For recognition of their job,s well done. It would be in the form of a Plaque that they would receive. They could hang it in their shop or home. We have special engine builders and restorers, all across the country and I feel its time to give them the recognition they deserve,

I feel there also could be a little history of their shops and work, plus photos, presented in the Resonator when the award is given out. The award program would be given thru total votes, voted on by the Club Members at large.

Member would submit names in to Forum, and everyone would be given 30days to vote and then the next month after votes where tallied, the award would be given. The voting and counting would be done on the Club web site, all by computer. Should be easy to set up. Any comments. I can see this be done three or four times a year. A shop or person could win in multi years.

although I seldom have a opinion. I think it should be a number of pictures submitted with the story to our elected board they choose 12 and one of our capable submits them into a calendar and I buy a couple for $20.00 each. Also our hodaka friends doing business could submit a business card and a short list of services, inserted into the calendar for a small fee. It would be on my shop wall for all to see. Anything hodaka related Hodaka motorcycle, engine, unique hodaka tool ect. ------------------ just me with no opinion Clarence

Clarence, I think the calendar idea is great. I'd participate for sure.

I think it’s simple enough to just nominate and vote. Publish it on the Hodaka Home Page, on the Hodaka Fan Page on Facebook, and make a nice certificate. Keep the costs down.

Turning it into a calendar & selling it sounds more like an opportunity to take advantage of giving an award. If you want to do a calendar, do a calendar of bikes. People can donate images.

But making a calendar of builders? Sounds a bit opportunistic to me. I’d buy a calendar of beautiful, well restored Hodakas, but not of an engine builder or just a motor. That’s my 2 cents. And if you make a calendar, make the bike pictures high resolution photos. At least 10-12 gb images. :ugeek: Victor

I thought the suggestion was for three a year, I guess I was suggesting twelve pictures that would make a full year calendar. I was not suggesting it to be a calendar of builders, but there would be a extra page of sponcer's and business cards with a note of services rendered such as machine shop, engine rebuild, shift cover specialist, tires, parts new ,parts used, a card for the person that super cleans your engines to perfection. I have no way of relating to the statement on taking advantage of giving an award?? Just floating thoughts you could have a picture of Harrys favorite hodaka a Lee Fabry hodaka and other builds. But you would also feature the builds of the year awards for 2021 . When somebody finished a rebuild post a picture here on the forum and submit it?? Just rambling thoughts, Nate can relate. -------------- Clarence

Ok, Clarence and Victor, the Calendar is a great Idea, but I might suggest, that Pictures submitted be of Non-professional builders bikes , reason, we have seen hundreds of pictures of the Professional builders bikes all through-out the years, no disrespecting their work, but lets look to the builders at large, give them, a little recognition.

Lets give the Hodaka World, at large, a little recognition for their efforts with Pictures and short stories of Their builds, in a Calendar form, good idea.

That way we can also use the Calendar pictures and info in the Resonator as well, to help fill the issues, it has been said that info coming in is hard to get and someone would have to put the info into a form that fits our Resonator program. I don,t agree to putting that info into the Hodaka Fan Club site, lets develop the Calendar, as an additional reason to Joining the Hodaka Club.

As Ed said, is there some out there with the skills to do that project for one year, I propose one person in charge and maybe two helpers, and they are the Judges and controllers of the Calendar info and pictures submitted. Then the following year one of the Helpers is in charge and so on and so on, keep developing new blood. One more point it is not cheap to do a Calendar. Unless you get the help from lets say some of the online programs like vistaprint, that already build Calendar,s, we just submit info and pictures and buy the finished product to sell.

PS, Ed, yes I would volunteer to help do the Eng, builders picture and history story development to be put in Resonator, this will go right along with a Resonator I have proposed to
Gary already for the dividing out the Tech part of resonator to a presentation call "Hodaka Tech-Bits" this would be made easily available to all Members first and then to the general public for a small fee to see the info. . I propose using all the Tech info presently in Resonator and add to it an simple index to used by everyone so things could be found easier. Also adding in "How To Videos", and some of the info pages from the original Hodaka Dealer Manuals, not all but a few that give charts such as torques specs, spark plug recommendation for each model bike as well as other pages from those books. All this info would have an Official watermark on them to protect the club from someone copying and selling the info. I have already talked to Terry Larson about the use of the watermark and its has to be done for our own good and his. Bruce

I think these are all great ideas, Bruce. Celebrating the bikes, the people who designed and perfected them, and the many folks who now keep them alive through offering parts or service and those who continue to wring then out on the track is a terrific idea. I like the notion of the focus on the people as much as the bikes in terms of a calendar if that's a consideration. Hodaka Dave has built many bikes for me and I know when the work is done, the bike will be in perfectly running stock trim so that I can tune and modify from there for the intended purpose like one would with a brand new Hodaka (ie without a lot of mechanical operation issues to sort out or worrying about when I put the first dent on it). The race engines he's built for me have always been amazingly durable and much more competitive than the pilot. If a calendar is being considered, I would prefer imaging the builder and the process as much as the finished bike. I like the certificate idea, but would throw in a few chips for a permanent display trophy for the Hodaka Museum in the Gem. Unfortunately, this is all kibbitzing from me. While my kids could probably knock this whole process out on their phones in 30 seconds, I on the other hand, am worthless. Opportunistic - heck yes. What a great fund-raising endeavor for the Hodaka Club. Rambling here.
