Maybe the same - at least the kits are metric sized:

Racetech or smart performance prob won't have a listing, but they usually dig up any odd stuff I need, may have to disassemble and measure seal sizes etc, but should be able to get parts no probs.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I have a set of these that seem to be OK in the seal department but have rusty springs. I've got the springs clean of rust with Evaporust, but there is a pretty good amount of pitting and I'm thinking about sanding, priming and painting the springs before I reinstall them. Has anyone got some words of wisdom or what paint might work best? I'm going to use a self-etching primer after sanding the remaining chrome, but I'm not sure about paint. Since they flex, I was thinking maybe an enamel with flex agent like they use for plastics. May even just try Krylon fusion? Maybe spray bed-liner coating or plasti-dip?

Also, I've never been into a set of shocks before and was wondering what it took to rebuild theses. There looks to be a nut on the shaft into the lower shock body that needs to be removed with a spanner and I'd guess it'd be fairly self explanatory after that, other than trying to get the new close dimensioned seals.

Thanks.

Dave

Thanks guys for the responses. Rich was able to direct me to the almost correct seal size.

Dave,
To take the shock apart, you need to locate the two very small punch points on the spanner nut. You need to drill those clear then I used a set of needle nose pliers and a cresent wrench to remove the spanner nuts. ( My spanner tool didnt work) Once you remove that, the internal shaft and other parts will follow. To remove the seals from the spanner nut, I had to use dental picks and a ton of patience. To get the parts off of the shaft, I had to grind off the end where the nut is and then remove the nut. Mine were filled with a goopy mixture of oil. I bead blasted the alum. bodies and I am have the shafts re-chromed. As for my springs, I am also having those re-chromed back to original.

I started to rebuild my KYB shocks to install new shafts. I used a Harbor Freight Tools spanner wrench from their 4 inch grinder. The pins fit the holes in the seal nut quite nicely. I had to heat and bend the spanner fingers to close up the gap on the spanner to match up with the seal nut. Only took a few minutes to modify.

Have the new shafts in the KYB's. I removed 2.5 ounces of fluid from one of them. Anyone, who has rebuilt these, have any info on the correct amount of fluid?

2.5 oz is correct , if you saw a little film on the outside before you took it apart it doesnt amount to anything measurable. Like a car that has a 3inch circle of oil on the driveway amounts to only 1/2 teaspoon . KINDA !
