High Idle - dies

Newly rebuild 93A with stock carb. Had alot of trouble with this carb "loading" up when first starting bike. Everyone here gave great advise. So I cleaned and cleaned on carb- no difference. Then I'm thinking, these are just passages, so I replaced float bowl and got the jet back in banjo bolt. Ordered a rebuild kit- replaced all jets. Starts right up! But I have to idle a little higher than I like and it just dies, starts right back up.It also prefers the throttle cracked on start up- any thoughts on this?

If its dying but starting back up its a lean condition not a rich one. Make sure you are using a good in line fuel filter or you could be cleaning the pilot jet every time you start it. Look for air leaks at manifold to carb and manifold to cylinder. Check that you didnt clog your pipe when you had the previous flooding condition. Retrictions in the pipe can stall the motor but still allow it to restart without fouling the plug. Check your carb top is on straight and the caps seal is in place. When it starts to die, try flipping the choke on and off and see if it recovers. Carb trouble can be a long and lonely mission.

Lean condition can cause high idle, especially if you've got a bit of an air leak, and that's an excellent tip from olddogs about flipping the choke to help diagnose.
