Setting 28mm floats...

I can’t figure out what’s happening here. I had the motor running great when the clutch was an issue. I changed nothing.

Now the clutch problem is remedied and the carb keeps acting like the floats are flooding the motor.

I have adjusted the float arm position 4 times and can not seem to zero it in. The floats don’t appear to have any leaks. It went from running, revving and idling great to just being a pain in the butt, wetting the plug.

Which direction of the float arm lowers the bowl volume? A higher than parallel with the edge of the carb, or a lower than parallel the edge of the carb? It would seem to me if you’re holding the carb upside down, having the float arm angled upward would shut the fuel off sooner, correct?

Sometimes I think this Combat Wombat just doesn’t want me to ride it!!!

Any advice would be appreciated. Thx! :ugeek: Victor

Well. I came up to an interesting discovery. The Combat Wombat carb is missing the needle jet bolt, washer & O ring! I’d probably never get the fuel flow correct without these pieces.

I found the brass washer In the bottom of the bowl. But no jet bolt. I am assuming the DPO lost it. Ordered replacements last night!

Without the needle jet bolt & O ring, the needle jet is just sucking fuel out of the bowl instead of thru the main jet. This is why adjusting the floats made no difference. The carb bowl wasn’t overflowing. It’s the lack of fuel flow control. I’ll have to wait for Terry to return from Texas to ship my parts, unless Bev is there & processes the order. :ugeek: Victor

I don't understand how your bike could have run fine before the clutch issue if these parts were missing then. It seems to me if they are missing now, they would have been missing then and the bike shouldn't have run well then. Just an observation.

I know what you mean. Can’t figure it out either! However, I will remedy it soon enough! I can’t post a video here or I would show you. The idle was higher in this video I have, but adjusting the idle screw brought it down. Anyway, parts were ordered and will be here soon!

Dirty Rat. What I conclude about the bike running without the needle jet bolt is this. Evidently the needle jet was syphoning unmetered fuel directly up from the bowl.

The main jet was not metering the fuel, because the needle jet bolt & O ring were not there to seal the needle jet against the bottom of the bowl. Truly a strange way for the carb to operate, but, it did operate. Just not correctly.

How it operated is still a mystery to me for sure! :ugeek: Victor
