Question- mounting a 97 wheel in 03 forks.

I have a question for those that have installed 03 forks on bikes that originally came with 30mm forks. When using the original wheels (in this case a Super Combat front wheel assembly) how do you install it and have it centered properly in the forks. A picture would be helpful also.

Thanks in advance, the Dirty Rat.

I have a model 95 Combat Wombat with the early mud catcher rims. I wanted to keep the stock wheel when I converted it to model 03 forks. I was able to use stock Hodaka axle spacers from my stash to center the wheel just fine. I have no idea what model these spacers came from... Unfortunately, this bike is out of pocket for several weeks so I can not provide measurements or photos today but will if no one else provides some.

Will shoot some photos tomorrow . . . and maybe even remember what parts I used.(?) Maybe.

DOH! Forgot to look at the front of my Wombat/Combat Wombat/Wombat 03 hybrid. Going now.

Dang! My scooter is so jammed in that I can't get to the front end for photos or measurements. However, all is not lost. I could see enough to jog my memory on the installation of the 03 forks with the CW(95) front wheel.

1. I have a speedo-drive unit installed with drive port capped off. I've installed and removed the speedometer a few times since putting this bike together, but (apparently) just left the drive unit in place the last time I removed the speedo.
2. I have item #29 (039217, front hub shaft collar) on the other side of the hub.

3. But I also have a simple spacer between the backing plate and the above mentioned shaft collar. I sort of/kind of remember custom making that spacer - which appears to fill about a 3/8" to 1/2" gap in order to center the tire in the forks. Sorry I can't give you the dimensions.

NOTE: I'm not sure I would have survived taking up motorcycling competition for the second time if I hadn't installed the 03 forks. Some folks say they aren't all that wonderful - but I think they are pretty sweet.

Thanks Ed and Dale, I think I have it figured out. Mounted the wheel as Ed mentioned (found an old 1/2" spacer) and it centers the wheel perfectly. Thanks again.
