Hodaka 250 front hub/axle assembly

Image[/img]Hi Hodaka Club,
I'm putting a newly acquired partly assembled Thunder Dog back together. The front axle seems to be missing something, and I can't things to line up just right. On the non-brake side of the hub, is there supposed to be a spacer or bushing between the hub and the shoulder of the axle? It looks like this spacer might also incorporate a dust cover for the seal on that side. It does not show up on the factory parts diagram, but it seems to me there should be something there as the diameter of the axle and axle shoulder are too small for the seal diameter. Thank you. Jeff

See illustration page "P" in the Parts List. It shows a speedometer drive - but the 250 ED didn't come with a speedo. On small bore off-road Hodies there was a spacer which went on the front axle in place of the speedo drive. Can't remember for sure about the 250's. I'm sure Terry at Hodaka Parts can tell you what's up.

Looks like there’s a different kind of spacer. See the pics and parts ID in the pics below. :ugeek: Victor

Vic I don't see the non-brake side of the hub in that illustration.

My problem is on the other side of the hub, the non-brake side.

The 250ED came standard with an odd selection of enduro parts. The speedometer drive was stock and also acted as a spacer to complete the seal of the front wheel bearing. It had a tail light, shock covers, but no headlight or speedometer. I used one for vintage enduro racing and adapted a Preston Petty headlight/number plate and 250SL speedometer/cable set. Later I tried using it as a vintage motocrosser and took a lot of ribbing over the speedometer drive. It was a much better enduro mount than MXer.

From that picture it appears that the shoulder of the axle contacts the inner race of the bearing and the seal rides on the larger diameter surface of the axle shoulder.

The problem is that this picture does not include the speedo drive spacer. It is shown in figure P. You need to either use a speedo drive or fabricate a like spacer. That has been covered pretty well I think.

My 250 ED came with a speedo drive unit and headlight/number plate. I did install a complete speedometer set up from Hodaka Parts.

Will the spacer from the 125 Duper Combat fit the 250 ED Front axle? Just asking for info purposes.

I know it works with the Wombat. I used the entire front wheel/axle assembly from an SC on my Wombat Combat. Don’t know if the 250 axle is the same diameter. :ugeek: Victor

Sorry no. The 250 uses a larger axle.

Hi All:
I found the part I needed on Ebay. It was listed as being for a Road Toad, but the inside diameter looked like the larger axle size, so I took a gamble and bought it. It fits. Did the Road Toad have the larger 15mm axle like the 250? Or did I just get lucky? Thanks to all for the help.
