I noticed that some of the Road Toads have a more round style and there are some with a more defined lines. Is there a year difference for these and can they be interchanged?

Yes different years, rounded tank is the earlier model then came the other tank. Not sure about the swapping of the tanks.

Like Socalhodaka said the 99 Toad used the traditional "round" style, and the 02 Toad used the "coffin" style.
Not sure on the years. Toad 99 was 74/75. Toad 02 might have been 1976.
You can install a round style traditional tank on the 02 Toad, or an 03 Wombat, but the welded on bottom bracket for the 02/03 tank would have to be cut off the frame. After that, it is a bolt on operation with Hodaka fasteners.
A "coffin" style 02/03 tank can be installed on a 99 Toad if you make a bracket for the rear tank mounts.
I installed a 99 tank on my 03 Wombat, and I have seen others install chrome tanks on 03 Wombats as well.

Thanks everyone for the info! At least I will have a choice if need be. I really like the round style tank better. But will deal with whichever year bike I can get.

Will a Combat Wombat Tank 95 fit on a 94 Wombat?
Thanks, Forrest
