Anyone have possible cross fit applications for points and condensers from the big 4 bike companies? Outside of the remote mount condenser?

Here is a quote from Joe some time back that I saved to my parts data file. I have not tried any of these as I personally prefer the remotely located condenser...

Kokusan Ignition Condensers. Honda Super Cub 50 Condenser Part # 30250-001-013 or Sudco 617-009. Some have a wire soldered to it: others don`t. Honda Condenser # 30250-110-024 is the same one. The diameter of these aftermarket condensers is a little smaller but fit great! Honda Part # 30250-001-013 and #30250-001-024 fit Hodaka 90 and 100 cc Engines. Forgot to add that! Joe. Kawasaki used the same condenser. Part number 21013-001 (Sudco part number 617-604).

I stopped at the Local Honda/Yamaha dealer and those part numbers are no longer available.

Then I went to a another local ATV repair shop and found the sudco parts. Those part numbers look right.

A couple/three issues with the points from sudco:

1. The points are "too tall". I had to remove a mm or two from the top, just above where the points are mounted with the screw. If not, the points base would come into contact with the inside of the flywheel.

2. I also had to lower the screw hole. maybe a mm.
3. The post on the backside of the points that fit into the stator plate is short, almost too short. But still long enough to lock into place. Just make sure the points are completely seated when installing.

I'm currently looking at other brands condensers and points to find a better match since I have a few magneto's to rebuild. I'll share what I learn when I get done.

I had success in the Ace B with a Kawasaki Sudco 302500-001-024.

Here’s a link on eBay. The hole needs to be opened towards the end of the tab more, but it will screw on in the regular place if you adjust the hole with a drill bit.

Is Hodaka-Parts out of the points? They are listed on the site as available.

The condensers are both listed as out of stock, but they say to call and they can help you out.

Further, a condenser is a condenser. As long as it fits and is a 6 volt condenser it should work. Take your old condenser to a good shop where the parts guys don't mine helping and compare the old with what they have in stock. You will probably find one that will fit and work. It might not be an exact fit, but as long as it is close you should be good to go. The fitting issue is one of the reasons that many of us now remote mount our condensers (along with being out of the engines heat and being easy to replace when needed).

The boys from the old school said the wrong condenser can cause the points to burn. But are we riding enough to make any difference??---------- Clarence

As far as POINTS, I found some old information on cross fit points from different brands. Before buying, I would bring in old set and compare. Also, this is information I got from someone else (a long time ago) so I can't vouch for the reliability of the information. Lastly, I would only go this route if Hodaka-Parts.com was out of the part needed, we need to continue to support those that support our habit.

Victor I emailed you. But I used the aforementioned condenser and it worked getting spark. I finally found time to try and start. Which I did. My friend saw sparks coming from my stator so I shut it down. Turns out it was sitting too high and hitting the flywheel. So I’ll have to order another.

Bummer. That was supposed to work with the newer B+’s! Try the Honda part numbers!

It worked I just didn’t realize it was too high until it was too late. Not sure how to modify it to sit lower. The mounting bracket on the condenser is low resulting in it sitting high.
