They are the same, but having super rat gears sounds better. -----------------Clarence as I remember

If you are talking about an Ace 100 gears and a model 93 Super Rat gears, they are the same. The only difference between the two was the primary gears. The Ace 100 had helical cut gears while the Super Rat had straight cut gears (the gear ratios were also different).

You can't mix and match gears from each set, but the entire Super Rat gear set will work in an Ace 100 with 5-speed transmission. You can easily tell the difference on the primary gear. Super Rat gears will have perpendicularly arranged teeth and the Ace set will have angled teeth looking at the gear in a horizontal position. Maybe with this info you can confirm if the tag matches the gear set. My dorky previous post refers to the relative noisiness of the straight cut gears.

Matt, I think there is a need for clarification here.? The transmissions are the same. Only the primary gear and its mated clutch gear are different. So he should be able to swap those two items just fine. I recently built one that way. This is assuming model 93 Super Rat and not the model 98.

Yikes Dale, I did leave that a bit vague. I should have been more clear regarding which gears in the sets differ. Yes, just the primary and clutch gears have to match regarding the tooth architecture. Thank you for pointing that out. I hate to be the source of confusion, even though exactly that is often enough the case.

So there isn’t a close ratio MX tranny in the Model 93 Super Rats? Hmmm. I was lead to believe that was the big difference.

Can I still hold this idea to be true with the Model 98 Super Rats having a close ratio MX tranny? Just asking for clarification. :ugeek: Victor

There was a close ratio set for the ace 90and their racing crankshafts we used in the super rats. Easy to check the part numbers on the Hodaka Parts Inc website-----Clarence

But the stock Model 93 has the same transmission gears as a Model 92(B). Is that correct? :ugeek: Victor

And to answer your question about the model 98 Super Rat... yes, they had a close ratio transmission (same transmission that was used in the model 97 Super Combat).
