Dumb luck solves my clutch arm seal leak

After commuting with my ‘72 Wombat over the last few weeks I noticed a bit of trans fluid on my garage floor. I needed to adjust the arm’s free play anyway so I pulled the clutch cover to investigate. Turns out it was the clutch arm’s seal. That o-ring has been in there less than a year and was still supple but there was a bit of play (wiggle) with the arm seated normally in the cover. I needed to ride the bike to work the following day so I tried to source a o-ring replacement locally.

I asked the local Napa parts guy about a replacement seal, best he had was a 5/8” OD o-ring that was 1/8” thick. In a moment of clarity I slid it on to test fit it, with the other seal still on there.
Black is the stock size seal, green is the one from Napa

Low and behold it filled the whole recess and pressed the original seal out enough to take up the play... no more wiggle and the leak’s gone, 2 weeks and counting.

Hoping someone else can benefit from this odd occurrence too.

Cool Bev! That's a neat-o "save the ride" trick. Locked and loaded.
