Exhaust diameter questions......

Do all the Model 99, 01, 02, 03 have the same exhaust diameter, or is the 125 diameter on the exhaust header bigger? I’m needing to make a pipe modification & want to know if what I have will work or not. Thanks in advance! :ugeek: Victor

OK. A more detailed question.....

If I take a Model 94 exhaust pipe, and I cut off the flare at the end of the header & remove the threaded exhaust nut, will the end of the pipe header, without the flare, fit into a 125 triangle shaped, 3 bolt exhaust header?

I have a Model 94 “flame thrower” pipe, that I would like to fit to a Combat Wombat exhaust port, but mount them both onto a Model 94 frame.

Anyone...Bueller....anyone???

So this is the reason for my quandary and questions about exhaust diameters. Thx! :ugeek: Victor

I thought you bought some measuring equipment?? It would be a good time for a practice test. Merry Christmas to you Victor looking to meet you at Hodaka Days --------------Clarence

I mounted a 92B Flame Thrower to a 98 Super Rat while I was waiting for my HT 3 pipe to arrive. I don't think your project would be much different. It was really quite easy. I know you have a welder.

Very Carefully do all your measuring and cutting. Mock up everything and tack weld it. Two or three tacks is all that's required. Carefully remove the pipe from the bike and take it to your favorite muffler shop. Have them gas weld it with steel rod.

I did buy a caliper of sorts, but I don’t have both exhaust manifolds for 125s as a spare. I probably need a 125 exhaust port, unless I can find one with the batch of parts I got from Paul. Don’t recall seeing one though. Have some ideas what to do, but was just trying to gather as much info as possible to keep from heading down the wrong path & having to double back. :ugeek: Victor

Thanks Larry! I’m going to work on it After Christmas! I’ll keep you posted. Guess I need to start a new thread for Victor’s Wombat Combat! :ugeek: Victor

Victor,

Yes, it will fit. It will fit inside the exhaust manifold. Cut off only the flange though. You’ll want to leave as much of the pipe behind the flange as possible. I have a CW top end on my wombat and used a 94 pipe for awhile. The problem is that you will find the 94 pipe a bit restrictive. I used Danny Cooke’s mod to remedy that problem. Danny replaced the baffles on a 94 spark arrestor with open pipe. You’d have to search previous posts to find it. I had a spark arrestor that a DPO had already cut off the baffles and I put a new 1” pipe on it, fabricated the rings that hold it in place and drilled holes in the pipe between the rings. Worked much better but it was a bit louder than I wanted

I would rate stock Hodaka pipes for use on your Combat Wombat engine (top end) in the following way: 1. Combat Wombat. 2. Wombat Model 94 (the sort of Yamaha looking sort of pipe) 3. "Flame thrower" exhaust from 94A or earlier 100cc Ace flame thrower (essentially the same pipes except for headers). Your Combat will probably out-run, out-grunt the other bikes in your stable with any of the 3 pipes . . . but the std CW pipe is a very good pipe. On several occasions when I was "pumping" Harry Taylor for info on how to make a CW be all it can be, without changing it into a high RPM racer he said, "Well kid, the Combat Wombat pipe is a pretty darn good pipe."

Well, I got a Wombat 94 Flame Thrower from Bruce. That’s what I’m planning to use. At least for now. The Model 95 pipes are harder to find. So if I come across one that isn’t outrageously priced, I may snatch it up. :ugeek: Victor

It’s also going on the motor with the reed valve assembly! So I’m hoping it will do fine! The idea is to make it look like a regular Wombat 94, but “Surprise!” :ugeek: Victor
