Recommended sprocket sizes for a model B for street use? Mostly back road riding on the weekend.

I would go 14 on the counter shaft and somewhere between 34-42 on the rear, depending on how big you are and what you expect needing for top speeds. But that’s just me....

I would use a 14 secondary sprocket and a 46 tooth rear sprocket. But it is a matter of choice based on what , how and where you ride. -------------Clarence

Stock the Ace 100 B+ came with a 15 tooth front sprocket and a 36 tooth rear sprocket. That was their street gearing. Included was a 50 tooth overlay sprocket for off-road riding.

In the hohaka manual 929510C owners handbook / parts list for the model 92B, lists a 15 tooth secondary sprocket and a 36 tooth rear sprocket. Manual 929510D the 100B+ owners hand book and illustrated parts manual lists a 14 tooth secondary sprocket and a 56 tooth rear sprocket. ---------------Clarence

Dirty_rat, my B+ has that same configuration with the overlay, but I put a 14 up front so my youngest grandson doesn’t have a higher top speed, for now, until he really learns to ride her well.

DPO may have changed engines. the B+ started with engine serial number P-58885 and frame number A-67613. The sprockets listed for the 92B are 15 and 36 with 420 chain. ------------Clarence

Clarence,
I don't think those engine and frame numbers are correct. I know that is what is listed on the web site, but I bought an Ace 100 B+ back in 1972 and the engine and frame numbers are lower than what is listed. My frame number starts with A-65XXX and the engine number is P-58834. The owners manual also list the starting frame number as A-63113.

Original owners manuals are key. Is the owners manual you refer to a original with the beginning frame number A67613? IT would have a manual number 929510C located in the upper right hand corner. There are copies of manuals out there that don't match the originals. I have copies of original Pacific basin trading company letters listing model, model name, beginning engine number and beginning frame number. I have original brochures, flyers, manuals, copies of manuals along with a complete set of Hap Jones blue books from 1960 through 1977. The Hap Jones bluebook list the date of new models as well as the dates of used models. My data does not always align 100 percent of the time, but most of the time. -------------Clarence

My owners manual is original, I got it new when I got the bike back in 1972.

Could you help me? I am trying to zero in on this. What color is your manual green and white or red? If red what is the number in upper right corner of the front page, 929510C or 929510D?? ------------Clarence

Here is a picture of my manual and a manual from a Hodaka Ace 100 B (the version with low front fender).
Both manuals list the bike as a Hodaka Ace 100-B.
The first one (green and white cover) shows an Ace 100-B (low front fender, 4 bolt sprocket rear wheel, non-adjustable forks. It is listed as part # 929510B (owners manual).
The second one (red cover) shows an Ace 100-B+ (high front fender, 6 bolt sprocket rear wheel, adjustable forks, larger speedo with trip meter, etc. This manual still list the bike as an Ace 100-B, although it is clearly an Ace 100-B+. The manual is listed as part #929510C. On this manual it states "beginning frame # A-63113.
Hope this helps.
