Hodaka - Red vs Orange

Someone posted the other day that Hodakas weren’t red, they were Orange or Red-Orange.

Well here’s a couple of photos to hopefully resolve the arguments about color.

Here is the headlight bucket from a 1972 Ace 100 B+. You can see from the outer shell that the color looks VERY Orange, because, it’s been exposed to 47 years of sunlight!

However, when you look at the inside of the bucket the color is Red. Not Orange-Red, nor Red -Orange, just Red. Yes it can be argued there are hundreds of variations of Red, but a basic red is your best bet! This is the 47 year of red, compared to the Rustoleum red I just used (on side of trash can lid). Pretty close match if you ask me! :ugeek: Victor

I still can picture the nice sunny day when we received the first production toaster tank Dirt Squirt at PABATCO in Athena. Following un-crating and final assembly, the Squirt was parked next to one of the 100-B+ "riders" maintained by the Service Department. It was striking to see the difference in frame color between the two models. Marv Foster and I traded comments about the color changing from "RED" (said with emphasis) toward a color which was sort of "tomato soup red".

Again as you say DPO, the inside of the bucket has been painted red. It looks like orange peal and paint on rust. I will go look at 10 buckets?? -----------------Clarence

Vic, sorry to disagree with you but you are wrong. The original Hodaka paint color is 1957 Chevrolet fiesta red, which is definitely red-orange.

I've seen sun-faded "red" Hodies faded to about standard DS color.

Larry, to each his own. This was an unmolested Ace 100 B+ headlight bucket and showed absolutely no evidence of being repainted inside the bucket. All I’m saying is, this color is close. Whether or not it’s close ‘enough’ for you is a personal opinion! LOL!!! :ugeek: Victor
