is there a way or a trick to take the kick starter off with out unwinding the spring or taking off the side case? its wore out and and points towards the back end not 90 degrees to the bike so your foot has a tendency to slip off when wet or muddy. thanks ...albert

So are you replacing the lever or spring? The best is to take the cover off while the bike is flat on it's left side. That way the oil stays in the motor. You have to index the lever on the spring and it's not easy without removing the cover.

I once attempted to remove/replace the kick start lever with the engine in the frame, and with the clutch cover in place. Spent a couple of hours fiddling at it as I remember. Then laid the bike on its left side, removed the clutch cover and had it done in 10 minutes or so. A great example of a "bad experience" being a good experience.

what im trying to do is weld this up to grind it flat so its not angled back so off with the case. thanks for saving me some frustration .... albert

Seems like it would just be simpler to get another kick start lever.... Victor

Albert, what is the condition of the stop tab on the swing-out foot piece? Would that be a bit easier to build up with a bit of weld?

Albert, it probably wouldn't take a very large bead to bring the foot pedal back to 90 degrees. Let me know how it works out. I might have a foot pedal in my stash that is collecting dust.

took the swing-out foot piece off and put a bit of weld on it then figured wile it was off i might as well put some weld on the kick lever its self just a dab and 4 inch grinder, got a good shoulder on them both and now it is a nice sturdy 90 degrees thanks for the brain storming.....albert
