New Hodaka owner and forum member with some ??s
I've taken delivery of a pretty fair 1965 Ace 90 and have a couple of issues that I'd like to get cleared up. When I got the bike it wouldn't idle at all and the guy said it needed the carb cleaned. Having many Mikunis on my vintage Yammies and Suzuki 2 strokes I would have no trouble with that at all. After getting the bike started I found that someone had screwed the idle speed knob down all the way so the slide was closed and also the mixture screw was all the way in. 40 seconds with a small screwdriver and the little Hodaka purrs like a champ.
The rubber connector from the lead pipe to the exhaust pipe has a large hole in it and it turns out it is just a piece of radiator hose. Where do I find one of those?
Also, the bike will start on the first or second kick every time and run great....for about 5 minutes then stop dead in its tracks and will not restart. After letting it cool, it will run again for another 5 minutes or so. I suspect the coil is the culprit. Doing some research it appears the 65 90 had a coil all to its own and I have not been able to source this part either. I did buy new petcocks and spark plugs and a speedo cable from one of the vendors here and was very pleased with the service, however I have sent 2 emails asking about the coil and exhaust rubber and have not gotten a response in over a week now.
I have done a search on this forum for possible answers but come up empty so far. Does anyone know where I can find the 2 parts I need or suitable replacements? Is there a reputable place that I can send my coil to and have it rewound? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I'm trying to get this bike running reliably enough to take to the OHVBSA endurance run.

The get hot and quit could be the condenser which is available from Hodaka-parts.com as well as the exhaust joint you're looking for. If you're sending emails to HPI, try calling, you'll get better results. And they can answer any other questions you may have at that time.

I have been looking on hodaka-parts but I have yet to see the exhaust rubber joint I need. It may be my browser, I dunno?

I also have a 1965 Ace 90. I used a piece of heater hose for the header to muffler connection. I will be at Toronto Ohio BSA meet also, along with at least another Hodaka owner. We will be riding the reliability run on our Hodakas.

You’ll want to grab it quick. It’s the last one he has.

Make sure that you do not have a exhaust leak at the cylinder, the rubber can catch fire and start a forest fire.------------ Clarence
