Seals 98 rat

Post by SuperRat2110 »

Hey guys, besides the crankshaft seal which protrudes a hair for the lube chamber, do the rest of the seals but right up to the bearing?

I set mine in flush with the case. I don't push them in till they touch the bearing.

Throwchain, is that personal preference or is that how they are typically installed. Are there any negatives to butting them up against the the bearing?

I'd say it's a personal preference, but been doing it that way for 40 years.

With the already noted exception for the magneto side crankshaft seal, seals get pressed in to a point flush with the exterior of the case bosses.

There is nothing good which can come from pressing the seals in further than flush. (There may not be anything bad . . . but there is certainly nothing which is better by pressing in further.)
