Checked with Hodaka-Parts, no luck. Looking for 14x56 sprockets and 423 chain.

I don't believe that you will find 423 chain anywhere. It is obsolete. If you are replacing both sprockets and the chain then go with 428.

If you are doing a period correct restoration, I understand the search for 423 chain. However, if you are building a rider . . . well, we switched to 428 chain on virtually all of the PABATCO "riders" back in the '70's.

I restored my 100B+ back when Pabatco was still in business. 428 chains and sprockets were the replacement items at that time. I sent a letter to Pabatco and asked if 423 sprockets and chain were still available. They sent me both sprockets and chain. Not sure if they even requested payment. Still have the bike, in retirement, lives in a heated garage, annual duties are a couple rides around the field. Yes, there is at least one 423 arrangement out there.

That was customer service as it should be!
I have a 94 Wombat that still has the original 423 chain and sprockets. I know that Paul still had some 423 sprockets at one time. At least countershaft sprockets but I don't believe that he had any 423 chain.

Hello, Hodaka World, even tho it is recommended to go to a 428 set up chain, spkt,s and etc, I believe Terry Larson had found some of the 423 sprockets in the inventory he picked up. Give him an e-mail request; [email protected] He will respond and keep fingures crossed he will have what you need. Bruce Young

The ace 100B, model 92B+ used the 423 chain and 14 to 56 sprockets. The Super Rat 100MX, model 93B also used the 423 chain and 14 to 62 sprocket. They were produced and sold at the same time with the 92B+ made first beginning with frame number 67613 and the 93B beginning with 70213 They are first listed in the motorcycle blue books as new models in 1973. You can see a picture of the 93B on page 84 in the complete story of HODAKA / Ken Smith, but no picture of the 92B+. -------------- Clarence

Clarence,
I am confused. I believe that these early models all used the 420 chain and that the 423 came about with the early model 94 Wombats. Later 94's and the 94A were then shipped with 428.

I'm pretty sure Clarence has it right. A quick review of two owner's manuals shows the same part number for the toaster tank Super Rat chain and the early Wombat chain (and I'm sure the early Wombats came with 423 chain).

The 92B+, 93B and the model 94 Wombat all had 423chain. They are all featured in the same brochure. The 1973 motorcycle blue book lists all three as new models for 1973. ------------ Clarence

I made the mistake of looking at the parts schematics for those models rear sprockets. They all list 420. Thus my confusion. Good, I learned something today.

I wasn’t aware that the 423 chains & sprockets had been superseded. That’s good to know rather than pulling out what’s left of my hair to try & find them. 428’s all around for the future! :ugeek: Victor
