How long do you all cook the pipe to de-carbon it? Thanks!

I get my fire going hot and build some coals up in my pit. Then I stack a little more wood on it and put the pipe on top.

I usually let mine “cook” until it stops shooting flames & theres little, if any, smoke coming out either end of the pipe.

Weigh your pipe before and after if you can. It will give you an idea of how much you burned up!

I had one Road Toad pipe actually go off like a flame thrower for a while, there was that much unburned 2 stroke oil inside the pipe. :ugeek: Victor

It should go through the flame thrower stage as shown. Always big fun!

That’s a classic photo Max! When mine did it, I couldn’t stop watching it to go get a camera or phone. It hissed and spit and the flames actually came straight out the ends, like lighting a torch! Eventually it slowed to just burning like in your photo, but it was truely amazing to watch it! Good times!!! :ugeek: Victor

It would be interesting if someone would weigh one before and after cooking. The oil and carbon soaked layer inside is sometimes pretty thick.

And yes, once cooked to perfection, serve with a red wine.

With BBQ I prefer a good lager.

Dirty-rat, no unexplained fires on my neighborhood. The last one was caused by the rocket motors of the alien spacecraft taking off.

Olddogs, I have a big bottle of Sangria! Come over & help me drink it!!!

Tether, I’m not a hops aficionado by any means. To me there’s only bad tasting beer & worse tasting beer. Lost my tastebuds for brew at an early age. :ugeek: Victor

Olddogs,

Someone did weigh one before and after a while back and posted the results. I don't remember who it was, or how much of a difference there was, but it was noticeable.

It would be interesting to know what the various OEM pipes weighed when new. It would be a good reference point, so that weighing before & after the BBQ process would indicate how close back to the OEM weight the pipe returned. It would be a good indication the pipe was clean! :ugeek: Victor

The only problem with that is you would almost have to use the same scale to measure on, as they can all be off somewhat. Also, I am sure the pipes themselves all weigh a little different due to materials used and who was welding on what day, etc. You might get a ballpark figure, but when you are talking about burning out a few ounces of carbon and oil, it would be hard to be real accurate. Easiest just to weigh your pipe before and after and see the difference.

Didn’t rhink about there being a difference in welding weights. :ugeek: Victor
