My Hodaka Dirt Squirt

I found these pictures of my Hodaka Dirt Squirt today. Pictures were taken in 1977.
I traded a Rupp mini bike that I fixed up for the non running Hodaka from my cousin. I did the points and cleaned the carb and got it running again. It ran good until one of my other cousins ran it wide open in too low of a gear and blew it up. The rebuild was over my head back then (I would have been 13 or 14). So we took it to a local Hodaka/Can Am dealer and he when right through it! It ran great then! I remember him saying it had a 125 engine with a stage 2 digger kit. Anyone ever hear of that? I have the owners manual for it someplace (I hope) the mechanic wrote everything down about the bike on the manual.

SWEEEEET! The Stage II Digger kit included a cylinder ported for reeds, a drilled piston, a reed cage, 28mm carb and a higher compression head. It was a bolt-on hop up kit. Yours might have had a Webco 125cc jug and all the fixins. COOL!!! Where's the scooter now?

Wow, those pics bring back memories. This is me on my Super Rat in 1977. I was also 13 years old.

Great picture! Back then we didn’t get to take pictures like we do now. I think those are all I have of the bike that I know of.

I remember the bike was a strong runner! Wish I still had it! I’m afraid it’s long gone now ☹️

Dozerash, I feel your pain. After doubling my Super Rat's dry weight with welds on multiple frame cracks, bailing wire, duct tape, and shame, it was tossed, lock, stock, and Webco barrel into the metal tub at the Skelly station where I worked. I had switched to a Suzy TM-125 at that time and (ignorantly) had absolutely no earthly idea it would ever be of any value - nostalgic, monetary or otherwise. Wrong, wrong, and wrong.

PS - oops...I meant "cylinder" ported for reeds.

That picture is the only one of me on my Super Rat. Fortunately, I still have it and I restored it. It is my pride and joy. I will never part with it. I have had it since it was new in 1975. I'm a sentimental fool.

Those lessons are always a bit painful to recall. I'm glad you kept your scoot, SR01. In 1979, one of my brother's classmates was enlisting and, like nearly everyone I went to high school with, he had a hot rod - in this case a 1971 Barracuda with an enormous hemi engine - that he was selling for $1000. That thing would lay a block-long patch. It ended up going to his cousin who proceeded to wreck it. Total loss. Makes me sick. We talked about trying to raise the bread to buy it but decided it was NOT WORTH IT!! Young and stupid, we were.

I found my owners manual for my Hodaka, it was what the shop owner gave me. It wasn’t the exact model but was good for reference. It says what it was written by me back then ((1975 Dirt Squirt with 1972 Super Rat 125 engine). On the back was the repair cost written by the Hodaka/Can Am shop owner mechanic.
