working on this burned up project and the coil needs some work also. it has good readings but at the spark plug end no readings at all so since i have to put new wire on it i broke the spark plug cap apart and now i understand what it means about the bad spark plug caps. it seems that the tip of the screw because of arcing and burned out enough to not make contact with the wire any more. i know it looks ugly but it will be a good story if it will still work......albert

forgot to add, if this one realy does not cut it what would be a good a replacement? ...albert

Put it on a shelf as a conversation starter, and find a good replacement.

I've considered this coil, or one similar.

Never bought one, but if the "under the flywheel" ignition stuff is ok this may do.

Mounting may be a little bit of work. Probably not much.

Emgo makes a good coil, find on ebay at $15.

so any good 6 volt coil should work on these bikes? and thanks for the info really appreciate it.....albert

There may be differences in mounting and you may have to slightly modify the wire ends to adapt to the wiring harness, but they should work.

thanks wasn't sure. and since there cost is low is better to replace then to screw with the one i got....albert

. . . "it looks ugly" . . . ? Now that is a truly masterful understatement when referring to that coil! I am utterly amazed that it still exhibits continuous windings and no shorts to ground!

Pssst, did you hear that Santa usually wears something red? . . . and that dynamite is just a wee bit loud when it explodes? (<---- examples of understatements which are not nearly as masterful as yours, )

Yes sir, Albert! Definitely meant as a compliment to your creative writing . . . and also to honor and smile about your initial "leaning" to see if you could make that grey blob with rust accents actually work as an ignition coil. I've worked pretty hard to "save" some pretty far gone components in my day too. (Hmmm, does that phrase, " . . . in my day." sound a bit like Uncle Charlie???)
