Ace 100 Clutch Spring Question

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

The Mrs let me escape to the garage for a bit to work on my kids Ace 100 clutch. I’d just ordered some clutch springs for it and to my surprise their different than what came out. To cut to the chase, can I use the new springs with what I have?

New springs are part #914011R and 924017, M92 Ace 100 springs, the case #’s say it’s a B+, it’s kinda a bitsa. My concern is with the size of the hole they seat in in the clutch cover and the clutch hub. I looked and they have the same part # for the clutch cover, 924008 and it’s cast on the cover.

Thanks in advance.

I ordered springs for my 94 Wombat and they came same as yours. I chose to not use them and put the old ones back in.

Thanks For the reply Tether. I wanted to replace mine because the outter springs have compressed to 16.5mm, per the manual they’re supposed to be 20mm. The inners springs were 17.6mm, manual lists spec as 17mm, but I figured replacing them as a set would be best. Before I took it apart the clutch worked but the friction point was in the last 1/4” of lever travel, actually it was either on or off at the point and I couldn’t even feather it while riding. Friction and steel plates measured fine too. I’m hesitant to use the newer set because the smaller springs could possible wander in their recess.

I don’t remember the measurements of my old springs but I do remember that the inner and outer measured the same, I’ll go back to my motes and check later. The friction disc measured right at the top end of the spec and the metal plates looked very good. I lapped and cleaned up the edges of the metal plates according to the instructions by Ed Chestnut. Put back together and it works fine now. I would still like to know what is going on here though. I just wasn’t going to install those springs that didn’t look right to me.

The springs in the clutch are a small diameter spring inside a large diameter spring, so there are 2 springs in each indent in the cover. If you only are using one spring and it's too small- look for the bigger spring that it goes in and try it.

Thrown, Both sets of springs are paired up. I could call Hodaka Parts but their website says they’re sold out of the larger diameter springs. My question is can I use the smaller diameter spring pair, inner and outer, that are in the right side of the photo? The larger ones on the left are the ones that were in the clutch when I tore it down and the outer springs on those have compressed.

Thanks.

It's possible that now that they are back from Vt, the inventory has changes to include the springs you need. Wouldn't hurt to call and ask.
