Clarence, Curt made beauteous weighted clutch on my trials machine. I'll try to find some photos.

Whew! I had to search files all the way back to 2005 when I was bringing the Bullfrog trials machine out of its 27 year retirement in the dark and stacked over regions of the garage. Curt Alexander machined the custom, heavy outer clutch cover for some of the Bullfrogs (I'm not sure how many.) I think the piece is a beauty! The note suggests that anyone taking on the task of machining a clutch cover like this should consider not taking the time to create the raised ridge/lip near the center of the item. This raised lip requires 1) a larger piece of parent stock to make the part, 2) more material removal while machining, and 3) provides extremely minimal additional rotational moment of inertia. In short, it takes more material/work to create it than the benefits it provides. This photo shows the weighted clutch installed on the crank. This photo shows internal details of the custom heavy outer clutch cover.

NOTE: If anyone wants to machine up one of these items, I have a detailed, dimensioned drawing created by measuring the item in the photos which can be shared.

Must be a tight fit under the cover. Does this modification work? It would seem that with the clutch basket rotating slower that the flywheel that benefits would be less? Or do both spin at similar speeds?

Yes, it works. It ran on my Bullfrog from 1971 to 1978, took a 27 year vacation, then started being used again in 2004 to the present. I think there may have been a failure in the mind picture imagining required to visualize where this item is in the power train. Take a look at the Illustrated Parts List for the Wombat. If I were going to give this part a part number, it would be 934008isoCAH (clutch cover - Curt Alexander Heavy). It gets substituted in for PN 934008iso and always spins at the same speed as the clutch hub (944012) which mounts to the crankshaft splines.

Doh, that's right, clutch and flywheel are both on the crank, just on opposite ends.
