Crank issue?

Hi guys!

I am trying to but together a Bonanza mini bike with a Hodaka Ace 100. I recently picked up a partial “E” engine, assembled cases and crank. Later I bought a clutch assembly and cover, but the clutch cover does not fit flush, out by about 1/4 inch. Then I bought a mag and flywheel (pot metal), and they don’t fit over the crank taper. I see that on the flywheel side the key way sits further back than on any ace 100 cranks I see on the internet, which leads me to believe the incorrect crank is in there.

I am not sure what I have, but before I wind up with a garage full of parts I don’t need, I need to solve this.

Any help you could give would be appreciated.

Sounds to me as a mix of 100 and 125 parts. Hard to tell from the pics, ignition looks correct. Not sure on the clutch issue. Where in the US are you located?

Pics of the 100 and 125 crank, the 100 crank the slot is closer to the threaded end.

Thank you for your quick response. I was also leaning towards the wrong crank. The connecting rod does have ACE__ something stamped on it(I'm at work and will look when I get home), does that make sense? Does the 100 rod fit on a 125 crank?

I don't believe the 125 Jug will fit on the 100 cases, so the recommendation is to get a 100 crank and rod? Are the 90 and 100 crank and rods the same?

I am located in Long Island New York

Thank you again

I know they make a 100 rod kit and a 125 rod kit, not sure on the 90 set up.

The 90 and 100 rods are not the same. The 90 was made to use a bushing at the piston pin while the 100 is designed to use a needle bearing at the piston pin.
Both the 100 and 125 rod can be used on either crank, the main difference between the two rods are the length (125 rod is approx. 5mm longer) and the top end bearing hole is 12mm on the 100 rod and 15mm on the 125 rod.
The cranks are different, with the early 100's having a different flywheel taper (it is also thinner - at the seal it is 17mm, while the 125 seal area is 20mm), The clutch end are also different in diameter and length.

Thank you thrownchain and dirtyrat! Does anyone out there want to trade a 100 crank for a 125?
