I had a coworker who mentioned an old orange bike under a tree in her parents back yard. It took a couple of years but I rescued it and got it stored under cover. That was 3 years ago. Just got it out so I can work on getting it running.

Left main bearing trashed. Crack in the case will be an issue but should be fixable. Odd place for it to crack.

Not sure yet what this is. Washed it out. Time to look at parts list.

This is going to take awhile but I'm excited to make progress.

I haven't found it so far. Any ideas?

That is a gear tooth. So a thorough check of all your transmission and primary drive gears is in your future.

The waterline in the crank case suggests boat. Cheer up, friend. You are saving a piece of history and when you are finished, you will have an incredibly cool bike! I've started out with much worse protoplasm - one of which I ride to work most every day.

Hmmm, I've got one of those too. Are your flywheels useable? I think mine are trash.

Matt, that's pretty cool you ride a ressurection almost daily I knew generally what I was getting into. I'm stoked to get to work on this, doesn't really matter how long it takes. Just depends on funding. Like most of you I've got other projects competing for time and dollars.
Nortryder, maybe, i hope so. I'll see after i get them cleaned. Here is a picture.

2nd gear is the culprit. Everything else looks good on a quick visual inspection. Have to think about how much to replace.
Oh and sorry about huge pictures. I figured out how to resize. I can delete the others if necessary.

I can't stop smiling when I ride that Ace to work. I have to be careful riding around if I am in a hurry as folks want to stop and ask questions about it or share stories about their Hodaka back in the day. That is always enjoyable. That crank looks like a good candidate for a rebuild. Hodaka Dave has rebuilt several for me and they have always worked perfectly without exception. Shoot him a line at [email protected]. I'm sure there are other equally competent folks with the know how and equipment here on the forum, but I've always had great results working with Hodaka Dave. Very cool bike you have there. I hoe to get one myself one day.

The crank could have been bad before. The watermarks look like the piston was up and out of the water, closer examination is needed. You must have clean un'rusted crank bearings, I would never be afraid to use a crank that was tight with clean bearings. Just me -------------Clarence

Agreed Clarence. The water mark looks almost directly opposite the big end rod bearing. Also, at least from what we can see, the splines look perfect. All good signs for a rebuildable crank.

I'm hoping the assembly is rebuildable and the corrosion is not too deep on the cheeks. Comes from having a rag stuck in the reed cage with no carb for 30 years in western Washington.
So far I have on my list;
Much more cleaning
Repair right case
All new bearings, seals, gaskets,
Rebuild the crank assembly
New 2nd gear
New control shift springs
Top end rebuild
What am I missing?

. . . a bit of pitting on the crank cheeks just helps mix the fuel and the air ???? (seriously, pitting of the cheeks is not an issue until it gets in the rod thrust washer area.)

Dirty but don't look like they got wet. If it's no good I might have to research the Honda CR125 adaptation. I think I have a 1975 and a 1976 bottom end lying around somewhere.
