Looks like my CW will be much more reliable now that a PVL has been installed on it while at its winter home at the Super Secret Hodaka Research and Meditation Center in Western PA.
Had an incident last June when I broke down 9 miles into a 100 mile Reliability Run in Ohio.
new bracket
Testing in the winter weather
New coil

You'll love it. I have them on all my dedicated race bikes including the CW and I've had zero problems ever!!

Hey Rich, The PVL is a really neat ignition system. Make sure you have a separate ground wire going from the frame to the coil. I have also seen others install a ground wire from the cylinder inlet stud to the frame under the tank. Good insurance. Richard

As an aside...
Premium non-ethanol gas is getting harder to find. I need to make my Wombat 94 125cc engine more Regular-grade fuel friendly. One way to do that might be to upgrade to an ignition with a variable timing advance. Having the timing set at full advance for all rpms and throttle openings is a good recipe for preignition and detonation.
One version of the PVL has a variable advance curve. But I also need an ignition system that has an alternator, since the bike will be "streetable".
Suggestions?

Powerdynamo makes a great product includes 12 volt lighting and CDI
I recently receive a PVL for my 250. Had a damaged stator assembly. It appeared to have been properly shipped. The company basically called me a liar, said I dropped it. I would imagine if you have a problem, you are going to eat it. Never will I purchase a PVL.

I would be interested in a performance report from anyone running a Powerdynamo system. Especially if they can compare its function with that of the PVL ignition.

Me too, Matt. I recall a thread about a Powerdynamo on a BMW over at ADVRider. Let me find some links over there.
As I recall, the impression of Powerdynamo was quite positive.

I see it is listed for "Hodaka 125/Road Toad 100" so I figure it will fit my Wombat 94.
12v is a plus since 6v can be a PITA.

PVL does not support lighting, PowerDynamo does. I've wired three PowerDynamo systems for lights. Rated at 12v and 80w or 100W output, (depending on which version you use), allows you to easily run those 12v 55/65W H4 bulbs that you can pick up at any auto parts store.
I have two Powerdynamo systems on my wish list for my Wombat 125 and Sleeper Ace 125.

Thanks Bill and Roger. I have a line on a Road Toad basket that had the entire charging system cannibalized and was thinking of going with the Powerdynamo ignition to keep the lighting system functional.

Roger, and 12v will open the door to LED lighting, which can produce higher quality lighting and reduced current draw. But even then, 12v halogen is an inexpensive and improved lighting option over the stock lighting.

I have a Powerdynamo on my Yamaha sleeper AT1. It is wonderful.
