Hodaka battery #

I guess this is making Hodaka progress-- I'm replacing my first battery after a couple of years of riding.

This is a '72 Wombat 94 and I find that it takes a Yuasa 6N4-2A battery. The Hodaka part# is 909421 and should be the one used in most 90, 100 and 125cc early bikes.
This Yuasa number is handy to know since most other battery companies will cross-reference to Yuasa. i think that the generic battery is something like "GN4-2A".

I found some great 6v motorcycle batteries which fit the Hodakas at Batteries Plus, for $24.95. I know a lot of folks are all about buying them from a particular vendor, but by the time you add in shipping costs you can just about buy these batteries at a 2 for 1 cost difference. So I thought I would share this info. The battery is the Xtreme 6v, part # CT6N4-2A-UNV.

They also sell a great 6/12v switchable battery charger, made by Noco, which is very easy to use! Victor

You can also find a 6V - 4A hr battery at Home Depot for under $25. Same general size as Hodaka flooded cell battery but in SLA style, intended for power out alarm systems. They run very slightly higher static voltage than the flooded cell and can be charged with any 6V automotive charger in the 1 amp range or so. There just isn't a reason any more to buy a flooded cell battery that will last only a year, maybe two if lucky, when you can find batteries that are made to hold a charge for extended periods, and can be mounted in any orientation including upside down.

It looks like the one I saw at the store, if a bit cheaper in price, but next time I go there, I will verify. Anyway, this is an SLA battery of about the right amp hour rating. You can verify the dimensions if you have an original style 6V battery or a reference to dimensions. To me it looks about the same. The major difference between this and a motorcycle battery is the electrical connection. This uses 1/4" tabs instead of lead screw blocks. An easy conversion.

Looks good. The 6N-2A is abt 61x61x85 mm so it'll fit, tho you may have to lower the batt box floor a bit.

Terminals don't matter, the stock Hodie batts have wire leads and std bullet conns. No starter amperage, just charging and whatever the wimpish lites draw.

This is a standard size for the 6v 4.5Ah SLA battery. I've been using it for 3 years and fits fine. In fact, I'm on my 2nd battery after 3 years. The first one would have lasted longer if I had remembered to put it on a tender over the winter; but it still lasted 2 years. I use a 1 inch piece of black foam to fill the gap it leaves in the battery tray since it's slimmer than the original battery. Delivers slightly more amperage than the original wet battery but lasts MUCH longer. I use spade connectors with bullets on the other end to connect it to the harness.

i have used a version of the above battery. The little gel NP4-6 6V 4.0 Ah from Genesis, or its equivalent, works well too. I use these in my YAMAHA DT400 laying on their side. No fluid to drip or refill and good life. There are tons of these in different brands for as little as $6. The cheap ones seem to work as well as the more expensive ones. If you like Yuasa then Genesis is your target.

That "NP4-6" is prezactly the same size designation. The other numbers have to do with the not-used vent tube and the wire terminals. I've been using a Dekka AGM (absorbed glas matt, a type of sealed) on the Beemer and it's been flawless.

Victor you could also tell the group about the headlights you recieved at a great price with the correct colored wireing with the right ends that plug right in.

Yep Rob!!! Well, they haven’t arrived yet, but I bought 2 of them! One for each RT! I had one with a burnt low beam filament and a second with s broken mount tab! So I bought 2 new Stanley’s from this “unknown guy!” LOL!

Now I have to disassemble the switch in the Red Toad. Testing seems to indicate the non-lighting issue may becoming from the Hi/Low switch itself! I hope I can repair the one I have! Seems like every time I see them on eBay, the Hi/Low switch button is broken off.... Victor
