Think Paul at strictly hodaka had a seat under used parts a little while ago .. also think theres a secondhand 17mm carb on ebay for sale atm similar to the ds 80 .. hard bike to get certain parts for .

Has anyone discovered Hodaka ever installing the incorrect engine with the wrong # on the assembly line? I have on steer front plate Q-10237 Frame 10237 engine T-10267. Is someone out their have my engine cause I have yours. I may part this out or next spring if I have some good offers on parts.

Fred,
It appears that you think the frame number and the engine number should match . . . that is not correct.

Engine numbers virtually NEVER match frame numbers on Hodaka Motorcycles.

the throttle for the Dirt Squirt 80 only fits the dirt squirt 80 but I'm sure if you buy a whole throttle assy for a road toad or 175 ,250 it would work fine

Years ago when I was in the trade, we used to build custom cables for clients with off-brand bikes (usually the British and Italian stuff) or mismatched carburetors, like an Amal on a Hodaka. These cables were not hard so make but did require having the correct barrel ends and tippets to match the throttle grip and carburetor, and of course you would need to know the correct length of free lead. I have no idea anymore whether any bike shops still offer custom built cables.

Can anyone please tell me which aftermarket carb fits up to the 1977 dirt squirt 80 or what is the mod to fit up a different carb to the intake pipe which is 22.85 mm. Thanks FB

I did a leak test on my 1977 Hodaka 80 and when I pump it to 6-7 psi it leaks down to 4psi and holds for hours. Anyone have any ideas, most likely original seals.

That's a positive (failed) leak-down test. It should hold 6 psi - ideally forever. Time to chase down the leak (including your leak-down test kit and connections). You'll need to change those 43 year-old seals anyway, but finding a leak elsewhere can direct your attention to that area when you overhaul the motor. BEWARE: If the seals exhibit no sign of leak, they will about five miles down the trail on your first ride. Then, when the bike seizes, you'll be happy you have a pocket knife to remove the masterlink so you can drop the chain and freewheel the bike as you push it back to the trailer. Yep, change the seals (and bearings too while you're in the neighborhood).
