Reviving a Road Toad

I've been working on a Road Toad that I traded for some Bultaco parts. It was pretty ratty. My goal was to get rid of all the funk but not restore it so that it could look again like a surviving original. Mostly touch up paint, new decals, cables, carb job, replace missing pieces, tires, sent the seat for a new cover, etc. It now runs really well. I have two remaining issues I'd like to fix. First, my turn signals and horn does not work. Will these work with a good 6V battery or must the bike be running too? My headlight does work, high and low. Dunno brake lights because I'm missing the rear switch. Can someone give me the run down? Also, the battery cover is missing the front bolt, and their is no place to put one. Does the original thread into the battery hold-down? My hold-down has no provision for that but it also looks like it was carved from a flat piece of steel on a grinder. Yes, I know. You want photos. Here it is so far. Image

I bought a Road Toad a few years ago and it also is missing the front of the battery box. I don't think that you can buy just that piece. I think that you must buy the whole battery box to get that piece. I have been thinking about trying to make that front piece. Let us know how it goes. Linc

Check with Bruce Young at HodakaParts.com. I think he picked up some more Toads and you may be able to get the front of the battery box from him! I had to do the same thing. There's a nut welded to the cover into which the screw threads. Victor
