Devil's advocate here. If you already have a Super Rat, why not consider doing a nice rider resto with your Combat Wombat? Black, chrome, and an over the top teardrop shaped olive drab air box is pretty sweet stuff. They are really cool bikes and were only made for one year making them somewhat more scarce. Not the hottest MX bike, they were a good test bed for the ultimate Hodaka 125cc race bike, the Super Combat. They are also an absolute blast to ride. I'm getting a piston port CW together now, but my reeded CW is a nifty MX bike and not a bad hare scrambler to boot. Like you, I found a killer deal on another CW and want to be able to run it in classic class (no reed induction) so it will have piston port induction. If you want to race it, you'll move up a class anyway if you build a Rat replica with a 125cc motor. Now, if your Rat is a painted tank model, I could certainly see wanting a chrome tank model. If for nothing else, the epic coolness of the classic Super Rat air box alone is reason enough to want one. You will also be in lockstep with the great Hodaka tradition of modification. Now, in agreement with Rich and Victor, here's the best news of all - you can't go wrong anyway you play it. It will be awesome. Keep us posted whichever way you go.

Well here's my experience. I built a 94A into basically a 95 cross country racer w/reed. I then built an Ace 100 with reed and many mods. Maybe it's just me but the Ace 100 frame seems to be a little small after building and racing the 125 even after lengthening the Ace 100 swing arm by two inches and putting a 19'' front and good suspension. There's no reason your project wouldn't work but you asked for input. I'm even short legged at 30" inseam but the 94 set-up seems to fit me better. I did race zillions of miles on Ace 90s and 100s but the 125 in the 94 frame seems to be the hot set-up for me at least. Hope this helps!
Max
PS--like Matt says, you can't go wrong either way, each sounds fun!

i live in north carolina
also have few more ? for experts out there
the combat i bought looks like someone changed carb and added reeds
it has the rubber slip on boot on intake side with hose clamp it has a bolt filling hole
at top of rubber boot seems like i rember somthing on road toad having oil injection there
so i am assuming that intake maybe from roadtoad? also if my carb has part number 26 on it
does that mean its a 26mm carb? and last ? if the reeds were added wouldnt holes have to be drilled
in piston?
thanks all

Yes holes in piston are needed as well as boost ports

Intake sounds like it's from a Toad, or, more likely a Model 03 Wombat to fit the 125 intake on the back of the cylinder. They all look pretty much the same, but I'm guessing the Road Toad one may be just a bit smaller?
