There was nothing on the tube worth watching tonight, so I starting looking through my collection of old DVDs. When low and behold I found a CD sent to my by Stu Osborn of 158 photos from Hodaka Days 2006 at Mid-Ohio. Lots of great shots of the museum, the trials and Hodaka only MX race. Familiar faces of Hodaka riders I haven't seen for a while. After scanning through the photos and remembering with fond memories of that great weekend. (It was my very first time riding trials), I dug out my copy of "On Any Sunday revisited" It was great watching it again after all these years.
Just thought I would share the moment with you all. The weather here is still cold as heck and motorcycle riding will need to wait for a few more weeks. My tags arrived for my recently acquired 250 SL, but it will have to wait. If you live in the northeast I guess you share my pain.

You guys just got obliterated - again. Epic noreaster just when you thought the end of winter was in sight. My brother, who lives in Boston, got pummeled. Being insane, however, he still rides his 650 Triumph every day. Studded tires. Its madness.
Ah, all the requirements met for a good time on snow and ice. Low to the ground, er, snow/ice and a large surface area tire. Those things look to be a good time. This all brings back memories of riding Hodaka 90s and 100s on a local frozen pond. Things have changed over the years. I've developed an aversion to the cold in my old age and the pond doesn't freeze anymore.

I found this old posting I made several years ago on the Yahoo Hodaka Owner Group. Must have been about 10 years ago.
AAAH, youth, I almost remember it well.
In 1973/74, we had very little snow those winters. We would trail
ride all year round as long as it didn't rain. Rain made it hard to
see. We liked to ride fast. Rain slowed us down and not being able
to see, well, was dangerous. Although I do remember riding after an
ice storm one time. It was like riding in a wonderland.
We had snow one time I remember. About a foot or so. Deep by typical
Philadelphia standards. I thought I would take a ride around the
neighborhood. Man was that fun. A bit hard to steer, but fun just
the same.
That's my exciting snow story. Oh! I guess it wasn't so exciting was
it? I could have lied and said I fell. But I didn't. I did fall in
that ice storm thing. Thought I broke my shinbone. I didn't, but I
went out and bought a pair of Full Bore MX boots right away.
I think I should stick with reading other’s stories and not tell my
boring ones.

OK, one more ice story. The frozen pond again, and a bunch of us were trying to set the record for how many times you could spin like an ice skater. The procedure was to hit the ice with a little speed and leaving the power on and feet down (you needed a short bike) the bike would begin to spin. Body English and tucking in like an ice skater (Conservation of angular momentum Dr. Science says) would get you a few more turns but it seemed that entry speed was the main factor in number of turns. It seemed logical to me that all I needed was more speed. I needed a better run at it, maybe I could use the cleared road above the pond to increase MPH entry speed. I was at low trail gearing and I did manage to get full speed in top gear before hitting the ice. Ah, a new record of 28 turns but things were going wrong, I wasn't slowing down all that much and hit the far bank at considerable speed, worse yet backwards, launching me to onto the frozen ground at speed. Ouch, well I did set the record and I did recover from bruises only. I did have to lay there awhile to analyze my injuries while the gang laughed and hooted.
Well there is one more funny ice story but not today. Things to do.
Winter riding is a challenge here in the great northeast. We ride these on the snowmobile trails!
