Hodaka Internal Rotor Point Ignition

I removed this ignition from a combat wombat engine a good bit ago. Just getting around to cleaning up, testing and restoring. This is the ONLY INTERNAL ROTOR point ignition I have ever seen on any Hodaka. The point gap can be set and then the entire stator rotated to fine tune timing. Did some research and looks exactly like the ignition system on the 73 / 74 Honda cr250 with one exception. The Honda has three mounting points for the stator but this only has two mounting points. Ignition does not look like it was modified. Looks like it was purpose made for a Hodaka. Seems like it would be a simple and reliable way to reduce flywheel mass for those situations that are appropriate. Also very easy to replace points and make timing adjustments. This could be used on any of the 125s that did not need lighting coils. Could also be used on the super combat and late super rat if you were willing to do away with the cdi ignition.

I ordered a set of nos points for the 73 /74 Honda cr250 and they are a perfect match for this ignition. Condensers are hard to find and expensive for the cr250. Decided to just use a different readily available condenser. Originally there was only one wire coming from this ignition that would have connected to the positive side of the coil. So I rewired it for a remote mounted condenser and added a blue ground wire for the Hodaka point ignition coil. Tested the stator and passed all test with flying colors.Danny Cooke
