Tires

Post by mac »

Looking at trials tires for my Ace 100b and have a few questions.

Will a 4.00x18 IRC TR11 fit the stock rim and clear the swing arm? From my rough measurements it seems that it will be very close and might not allow a chain guard- which I hate to run without.

Has anyone tried the Vee Rubber trials tires and if so are they any good? They have trials type tires in 3.25x18 and 2.75x19 that should fit pretty nice but maybe only look the part and do not offer much grip. Also how do you order them? There did not seem to be a way to do it on the website.

My last choice would be a Kenda dual sport type tire, but not too sure if they would work very well.

The Kendas are an OK tire. Not great, but OK. They don't last as long as other tires but the cost a bit less so it kind of evens out. The place they will seem inadequate is on a damp or wet high banked turn. But for general trail riding they are fine. That's my 2 cents on them. :D Victor

I have a 400 X 18 IRC trials tire on my Ace 100B+. 275 X 21 on the front.
Even with the original swing arm length it fits. Tight, but ok. No chain guard though. I guess if I want to, I could custom make one to fit, but it will be tricky.
I have since increased the swing arm by 2 inches to increase performance. The steering stops have been ground to allow increased movement.

I found some more trials type tires that might be of interest.

They are Shinko SR241.The ones that I looked at were on Bike Bandit and had a pretty good variety of sizing for 17"18" and 19".
