I don't want to jinx myself, but I might have some news next week concerning the ECHJYA.

I had to look that one up, too.
East Coast Hodaka Junk Yard Assoc.
Quaint-ish.

I'm the ECHJYA pension fund manager, and I do even know what it is.

The wait is over. A member of the ECHJYA added to the herd today. A 250 SL. It has an antique title. 2180 miles. Looks like I finally have a street legal Hodaka. Haven’t had one of those since 1976.
If all goes well, I will ride it on the reliability run in Toronto Ohio this June.

She's a beaut. Congratulations! Tell me about the exhaust system. Looks to be sans Skyway.

Exhaust seems to be stock except for the silencer. Not sure what that is. Tires are new.

Well, I think you have a really sweet ride there. I love the red-tank SL. I have a white whale myself, but I think the red tank look is cooler. It maintains the Hodaka red connection. I'm always on the lookout for a red tank and plastics just for fun. Is yours a survivor or has it been restored? The ultra low mileage and pristine condition says survivor. Either way, great score!!

Best,

Matt

Good show Rick!!! I had my suspicions that was what you were gonna spring on us! I seen that beauty on Craigslist last week. What a good deal you got there. Looking forward to seeing it at Toronto.

I found it on the Strictly Hodaka website, although the owner also had it on Craig's list.

My good friend Mike Perrett has one that is highly modified. He recommends I get the new and improved kick crank shaft. I hope Paul still has some left.

I was wondering about that yesterday, and checked. The kit is still posted, it includes a new kickstart lever as well as the new (longer) shaft.

The kickstart is the Achilles heel of the 250s. The original owner of my 250SL tossed it somewhere in the bush behind his house after the kick shaft and lever knuckle stripped their splines, after riding the bike only 830 miles. Out in the weather the next 35 years or so were not kind to it, even the sealed beam had water sloshing around in it when I got the bike-- but at least there were no little fishes swimming around in there:D

Is this the new kit for the 250 SL kick crank? I ordered a kit for Paul. Just not sure if this is what I ordered. I want the new and improved set up.

Ok, I just got a message from Paul. That is the right kit. Whew! I will be buying more parts I am sure. I will keep the group informed.

Ha, Ha, HA! This bike came without a kill switch. Just a couple of loose wires that I had to make sure didn't touch each other or the engine would die. So I bought a cheap kill switch online. Before soldering up the wires, I did an ohm check of the switch. Good thing I did. It is backwards. ON is closed, OFF is open. Reversed from what it needs to be. Oh well, it is now a thief deterrent device. I could even leave the key in it and a thief couldn't ride it away. Of course now you all know the secret.
