Harry Hears A Hodaka!

Well I had a lot of fun this afternoon! My book came and I read it in one sitting! I've now given it to my grandsons with instructions that all 3 of them must read it & all 3 of them must write a book report on it, which they can turn in for extra credit at school!

What a fun book! It highlighted so much of the work we all go through without it being boringly explicit details! I found myself building in anticipation of the completion of the bike & the story, just as we reach that peak of anticipation finishing a bike!

A big THANKS to Matt for mentioning the book in another thread! I was not aware of this book and so enjoyed it, as I am sure my grandsons will do as well! After they read it, I'll slip it to my nephew, who's rebuilding the Red Toad with me, and tell his dad the same requirements apply. Read & write a book report!

It was $8.95 through Amazon, with free 2 day shipping! ; D Victor

Haven't gotten one of those yet. But when Matt mentioned the Harry book, I knew it was going to be a fun story! I got it mainly for my grandsons, but enjoyed the quick read myself as well! ; D Victor

I'm happy you enjoyed the book, Victor. I'm in 100% agreement with your impression. The "find", chasing down parts, the little victories and disappointments along the way, title searches, the first kick, the first ride...its all there. Its really a fun read. After hearing you are going to introduce your grandsons to the book, I'm going to hip my daughter to it as well. Good call!!

I got a copy of Harry Hears a Hodaka after it was first released. I think I'll make it required reading for my son-in-law, because he's enthusiastically taken apart one of my old bikes -- but doesn't seem as motivated to put it back together.

That's s great idea Darrell! Maybe it will motivate him to finish it. And when he's done reading it, maybe you should tell him he's going to have to do chores each day he doesn't work on the bike if you don't start seeing progress! Just no riding anything, not even a 4 wheeler until he's done with putting it back together! LOL!!! ; D Victor

Matt. With everything you've said about your 12 year old diving right in, I'm sure she will appreciate reading the book! And make her write a book report she can turn in too! She might actually enjoy writing one about a book she has so much fun reading! ; D Victor

That's a great idea, Victor. She's always seemed to be a girly girl, but you should see her in the shop! Grease up to her elbows and the whole schmeer! Another generation coming along!!
