I was eyeing up my new small end bushing for my 64 ace 90 connecting rod and my wrist pin will not fit through it. The bushing has too small of an inside diameter. Also, the bushing in the rod right now has holes through it where there are holes in the connecting rod itself probably for lubrication.

1. How am i to get the wrist pin to fit properly? take it to a machine shop??(id rather not have to)

2. Should i drill holes through it once it is installed in the rod? or do i just not worry about the holes?

3. Does the bushing need to be installed in the connecting rod for proper fitting or can the pin be fitted while the bushing is not yet installed?

Jake, the new installed bushing will have to have the holes drilled, then reamed with a correct size reamer to get the proper fit.

Is it feasible to install the bushing and ream it correctly while the motor is still in the bike? Any recommended places to get a 12mm reamer from?

Mike, I might have to take you up on your offer of an install tool for the bushing. I certainly don't want to mess it up at this point, I am jonesing to ride this bike again but don't want to have to buy another bushing cause I screwed this one up putting it in. I really thought id have this back together by now but I just cant seem to get the time together to dedicate to the ol ace.

Jake, I would have to have the crank, might be able to do it with the crank in th engine. You could send up just the crank,or we could meet somewhere for me to get the complete engine.
I would probably have to purchase the correct size reamer, since I only have a few.

Mike, I got the bushing in. I used a 4 inch long 1/4" bolt with a couple 1/4" drive sockets and nuts and washers on it to get the old one out and the new one in. it worked pretty well. then I used a right angled drill and drilled out the 3 holes. I ordered a 12mm hand reamer and am waiting on its arrival. I'll keep ya posted on my progress.

Jake, you should take help from some technician.Because recently I also replaced the BMW Control Arm & Suspension Bushings to also took the help of technician.Because they can install that better than us.If you want to buy new bushing.I would like to advise you to buy it from Armstrong distributors because their products come up with life time warranty.
