Is anyone riding both the 175 and 250 on a regular basis, on the road? I am in the process of setting up my 250SL for highway use. As of right now, the 175 seems to run better, especially with the fact that it has always had a serious power increase in the upper RPM scale, if one wanted more power. I really have not had any experience with the 250 on the highway, so if you have both models, could you let me know how they compare.

I can't speak for the 175 but the my 250SL cruises comfortably between 55 to 60 mph. Proper wheel balancing makes a big difference in over-the-highway travel.

Thanks Darrell, this 250 will do that, so will the 175. The 175 has a boost port which must make the difference in performance. Back in 1975 I had a Suzuki TS 250 that would top out at 70mph.

Thank you Mike for this post. I as of yesterday finally took my 175SL out on the roads of Vermont after having it parked for a few years. What a great feeling to be on my bike and hit the gravel roads around here. Missed having fun on my bikes.
I was thinking the same thing yesterday as I have a 250SL downstairs that I hope to register for the road here in VT also. I would love to know what you find out Mike when you have a chance please.

Paul, As I stated, I never had a 250 before so therefore with the addition of a Suzuki TM 250 cylinder head, an unknown (maybe off a YZ 125) expansion chamber, FMF silencer and Baldwin air filter, I really don't know what to expect. Running a 170 main jet, seems a bit low, but was running very rich above that.

I can put a boost port in that , I do a lot of them in snow mobile engines as well as other makes of bikes and once the boost port is in place the transfer ports can also be redirected . Example on a Polaris 440

Scott, I can install a boost port in the 250 if the engine needs it, does not take a rocket scientist to do that.

do you think a boost port in the 250 motor is a big advantage? how about a ufo in the carb slide?

Both would help, I am going to finish my testing and probably keep it the way it is. I am concerned about fuel mileage as well as horsepower.

I don't think the ufo would hurt your fuel mileage. I'm thinking it could only help
