These have been kind of scarce recently and it is difficult to install the control shaft snap ring with out it. Tools are being made for Strictly Hodaka and should be completed middle of next week. The center pins are NOS Hodaka supplied by Paul and are hardened for durability. I am making the handle parts to complete the tool. This is as far as I got today. Working end of handle will be flame hardened for durability and then refinished. Completed tools will be available from Strictly Hodaka.

Danny,
Thank you. The next generation of Hodaka fans don't even know (yet) how big these efforts are.

Yup, those look very nice Danny!

Vic, the "early model" part of the thread title indicates that this tool is correct for Models 90 thru 97. The "stepped" control shaft in the models 98 thru 03 (plus the 80cc Dirt Squirt) requires a slightly different tool. The "later model" control shaft has a smaller diameter end and matching smaller diameter circlip - and the tool used for circlip installation is specific to the "early models" or the "later models".

Yes Ed. I read that. Considering I have a Model 94 bottom end and 2 B+ motors, it will come in handy!
Then I'll need one for the 2 Model 99's as well. It is the only way to change the O ring seals inside the control shafts. ; D Victor

OK, that's good. I just didn't want you to be surprised about the tool Danny is putting together not working on your Toads.

I have never used one to change the O ring seal, how does that work? -------------Clarence

Probably means first remove shaft, then replace seal. Something like that.

Danny, I'm always envious of your manufacturing capabilities and tools. Keep up the good work and thanks for the post.

PS--All the cool tools I have are to take pictures in a dying profession. :( I do have an adjustable wrench, hammer and drill press--That's it! Oh, I forgot, snap ring tool and flywheel puller.

Having wrestled with a similar snapring on Bosch starters for years, I bought the Hodaka shifter snapring tool early on, along with the flywheel puller and clutch/etc/holder tool.

Good job!

Completed the tools today and shipping to Paul tomorrow. Nine of these completed so limited supply.

To use these simply install the control shaft clip on the tapered pin, install tapered pin with clip in handle and push tool to install clip. Springs and ball receiver would have to be installed first in a real installation. Pic is just to show how the tool works.

Jack,
I doubt they have all sold out. I confirmed the tools have arrived at Strictly Hodaka some time ago. I just think Paul has been busy and may not have up dated his web sight. I would recommend giving them a call.

thanks Danny
emailed Paul and they are still to come on line.
I made the fortunate discovery last night when cleaning and inspecting the bike that my wombats poor shifting towards the end of my last ride last weekend (first indicated by the shift cover starting to fall off!)had amazingly not resulted in me bending the control shaft. So its just a matter of readjusting the shifter. ( and maybe checking a few fasteners a bit more regularly!) However I am still keen to get that tool as I dont want to have to replace the control shaft again without one.- Its a tricky two person
job!
