Tool Tube Cap

Post by Bill2001 »

'72 Wombat 94, and the Tool Tube cap is held on with a medium-tension spring between the cap and one of the small holes in the bottom of the tube. Works so-so. Does anyone have a photo/drawing/description of how it _should_ work, particularly about the size and tension of the spring? The top side of the cap is held with a metal push-button.

Bill. Is it the spring which is weakened? If so, remove the spring, hold it with a pair of needle nose pliers at the very end and heat the spring with a propane torch. The heating should tighten the spring and bring it back to its original shape and tension! Just don't over heat it. You can use this process to even straighten a spring which has been bent out of shape! ; D Victor

That is a great tip. I hope I can remember it. Came across a lot of tool can springs that were stretched.

I don't know if it is the correct spring or not, and the ends appear to have been poorly reshaped. I don;t have any idea of _how_ it is supposed to work.

But an any rate, SH has a replacement spring in stock: 32-Item# /Fig.Q -Hodaka Part#_909038 - Tool box cover spring . I'll order that instead of trying to guess which spring should fit how...
